A fuse box becomes a consumer unit
A 1970s fuse box with fuse wire swapped for a modern board with RCBO protection on every circuit.
- Time
- One day
- Cost
- £695 including the board
The old board still had rewireable fuses and no RCD protection at all. We tested every circuit first, found a lighting circuit with a borrowed neutral and fixed it, then fitted a new consumer unit with an RCBO on each of the eight circuits and surge protection.
Power was off from nine until half past two; the family got a printed circuit chart and the certificate by email the same evening.
